The Largo Além Ponte Hotels process results from the valorization of punctual and small-scale action, based on global policies and strategies. The intervention in each building is based on the limit idea that the entire square would be a hotel.
The concept that supported the intervention was to create interdependencies between the programs of the 2 buildings, in a logic of complementarity and not competition. The square assumed the role of “host” of the complex, as a common atrium for the different buildings.
The projects cannot be analyzed separately, nor without their relationship with the square. Only in this way its functioning is perceptible.
House 24 assumes a greater separation between interior and exterior, in the choice of materials and spatial solutions, but assumes in the back façade its interior nature, through a new façade, as if the building had been “cut“. It thus reveals its contemporary intervention as an alternative to an existing façade resulting from an amalgamation of additions, annexes and cutouts that are dissonant with the rest of the building and without any interest in maintenance. Access is done by the back patio, on the discovery of the new façade. At the front, it was chosen a store as an independent fraction.
House 9 takes on a more traditional character in its organization and use of materials. The façades overlooking the river assume greater preponderance in terms of volume in conjunction with the rest of the village, in addition to Largo da Alegria.
The project, understood as a whole, reveals an experimental character from the point of view of the project, but also a challenge to management, in a less conventional hotel strategy, but more suited to the scale of historic centers.
