The IPCA Superior School of Design occupies the building where the Gonçalo Pereira School once operated, in Barcelos, Portugal.

The building was constructed in the 1930s and is in a good state of preservation, despite the evident and innumerable transformations that it has undergone, motivated by the need for adaptation over time. We tried to preserve the original design still present in the two facades and in the interior, keeping the typology under the same purpose - teaching / education - but responding at the same time to a set of different requests, suitable for the new program. The public image and the collective memory of the building are preserved through its integral recovery, maintaining its spatial principle. It is also proposed a new and complementary building that guarantees its total independence from the existing building and that seeks a different atmosphere due to its program, its scale, proportion and management of the interior / exterior relationship.
